Skunk Works use a variety of technology tools to support the team. Many of them are generously donated, but some are paid licenses.
www.Wildapricot.org is our web site tool and formal communications tool. It includes robust member management and communication features. A free version is available with an advertising banner at the top.
We continue to use www.groupspaces.com for email distribution lists. We send regular formatted newsletters weekly to students with updates. Sending this newsletter is limited to key team members, but any team member or parent can send an email to the whole team using the groupspaces team email address. We look forward to a similar feature being available in WildApricot.
In the past we used www.google.com/groups for communication and a traditional website. Google groups does not allow additional fields for managing membership. (Graduating year, associated parent, sub-team membership, shirt size, etc)
www.mytimestation.com has generously provided us with a donated use of their ios app and cloud time and attendance system students have a QR code to scan in and out at each meeting.
Autodesk provides free licenses for education groups. Skunk Works uses Inventor to design the robot each year.
We have a windows server with Autodesk Vault to host our CAD files and allow check-in check-out and version control. Microsoft sells discount Windows server licenses to non-profit organizations through re-sellers like CDW. SQL Server Express is provided free.
We have a complimentary license from Microsoft for Office 365 and a cloud sharepoint instance that allows teams to share and store documents.
We have the complete Adobe suite for video editing
Skunkworks developed the relationship with Tableau for all FIRST teams to perform scouting data analysis. We use a custom developed android tablet application to collect match data for analysis. License keys are available to coaches in the FIRST TIMS system.
